Detoxification

What Is Detoxification?

acupuncture-service-1When people talk about detoxification they are typically referring to the cleaning of your blood of toxins. This is done by getting rid of the impurities in your blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also frequently eliminates toxins through the kidneys, lungs, lymph, intestines, and skin. The process of detoxifying your body begins by quitting the long term usage of addictive substances, and can be a long and arduous process due to withdrawal symptoms.

While you use addictive substances your body creates a homeostasis, where your body thinks that while there are alcohol or drugs in your system you are in a state of balance. Withdrawal symptoms are the direct result of your body no longer being in a balance, and it takes time to return to a state of natural, toxin-free balance.

How Does Acupuncture Help Detox?

There are over two thousand points inside your body known as acupuncture, each of which corresponds with a specific physiological, neurological, or emotional function. Careful manipulation of certain points, as well as groups of points, can affect a wide range of bodily functions, and in turn, treat a wide range of bodily disorders or impairments. By using acupuncture to reduce cravings, increase neuroreceptor function, and maintain a state of balance, you can speed up and improve the quality of your recovery.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Acupuncture is virtually pain-free, and is typically associated with an occasional, slight pinching sensation. Following the slight pinch of the needle insertion is usually a warming, cooling, or dull achy sensation in the body, which is usually not painful at all. You may also experience mild tingling or numbing sensations. These are all results of the Qi in your body being manipulated and are the desired effects, however, if you do experience any pain or discomfort, please let us know right away, as your needles may need to be adjusted.
